The rope snapped while a tourist was engaged in Bungy jumping, but she miraculously survived after falling into the river.

A female tourist tried Bungy jumping at the Fangshan district in Beijing when the rope suddenly snapped, causing her to fall into the river. As luck would have it, she wasn’t too high up in the air when the accident occurred.

Company officials said the incident was due to a mechanical fault. When the tourist was rescued, she was still conscious and not in a life-threatening condition. She was immediately sent to hospital for check-up.

The Bungy jump platform in question is the first such establishment in Mainland China. Completed in 1997, it is 48 m above the river. A further platform at 55 m above the river was added in 1998. It charges 260 yuan per person.
