Universities in Japan have a custom of electing the most beautiful in the school’s beauty pageant. In the “Miss Colle” pageant of Tokyo Institute of Technology, the winner turns out to be a Chinese international student. After reviewing the contest, netizens find the result not surprising at all.
The champion of the pageant is Ai Qianqian, a 23-year-old Chinese student taking Life Science and Technology as major in Tokyo Institute of Technology. As Japanese like facial characteristics such as big round eyes, pale fine skin and a sweet smile, she won over other local contestants and took the crown.
The first and second runner-ups, however, are teased by sharp-tongued netizens who joke “do they think they are here for a comedian contest?” The honor of first runner-up goes to Kinari Kobayashi, a boyish unfeminine student who has dark skin color and “unattractive look”, while the second runner-up Amino Hikari was mocked as a shemale.
Chinese students had taken part in the previous pageants of “Miss Colle”, but none of them won the crown. In 2006, the top three winners were Shimamoto Kyoko, Kimura Masako and Chinese student Liu Yingqing, while in 2015 the top three were Mayumi Tasaka, Iku Morikawa and Rina Nishida, all Japanese.
