Fishmongers have been seen selling sharks openly on a roadside market in a coastal city of Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province.
Most are small and medium-sized sharks, either fresh or dried, costing from 20 to 60 yuan (3 to 9 U.S. dollars)per kilogram.
Under Chinese law, consumption and sale of endangered species of shark are banned, and any shark meat to be sold must be approved by the local fisheries bureau.
