Tragic accident! :'(
A 10-year-old male giraffe died in a popular Chinese zoo after its neck got stuck between two tree branches to scratch an itch.
Visitors witnessed the scene at the zoo Kunming, the capital city of south-western China's Yunnan Province, and were shocked to see the animal collapsing in front of them.
The giraffe named Hairong had been living at the zoo for five years. It's a habit for the animal to scratch its neck through the tree to ease itches where it could not reach. Its was trapped when the incident happened.
The zoo staff attempted to reach its head using a ladder but it was firmly lodged. They tried to remove one of the branches off but it didn't help Hairong get out of the situation.
Hairong collapsed to the ground when its neck got released. The vets in the zoo announced its death and said it suffered a severe neck injury.
The incident is under investigation.
