The hotel was found on fire when heavy smoke blew out from the window on the 7th floor on 31st last month. Firefighters spent more than one hour to extinguish the fire.

It is reported that a man surnamed Zhang lit eight candles forming a heart shape on the carpet and then he went out to meet his girlfriend. He intended to propose to his girlfriend on their anniversary but it unexpectedly turned to a fire.

The firefighters indicated that the candles may ignite some flammable materials to cause a fire while candles burning out may also be a reason.

Zhang is currently negotiating with the hotel. He may need to compensate for the damage caused, casting about RMB 250,000.

Netizens comment fiercely for the case, saying, "250,000 dollar proposal", "share the compensation after marrying" or "idiot romance".
