A large number of tourists were trapped in the valleys of Hunan Taojiang, China, pinned down by the aggressive flash flood. Members of the rescue team successfully extracted 34 victims, including two five-year-old children.
The incident took place on the 4th of August at around noon at the Nanchong River in Songmutang Town, Taojiang County, Yiyang City. A brief rainstorm of only 30 minutes over the area caused a flash flood between the valleys.
Due to the difficult terrain, firetrucks and other rescue vehicles were unable to enter the affected area. Consequently, the rescue team had to push onwards on foot, making use of various tools and ropes to traverse across the flooded river in order to rescue the trapped tourists.
Only until 5 in the afternoon, the water levels were low enough to allow all 34 tourists to be rescued safely, resulting in no injuries.
