The trial in Cambodia of an Australian filmmaker arrested last year on national security grounds after he flew a drone over an opposition rally has resumed.
Another character witness testified Monday in the trial of 69-year-old James Ricketson, who has been imprisoned since June last year. If convicted on the charge of endangering national security, which is tantamount in legal terms to espionage, he could be jailed for five to 10 years.
Chab Thy, a 33-year-old mother of nine said to be Ricketson's goddaughter, testified how he had rescued her from a life of grinding poverty, beginning when she was a beggar living in the streets.
Last week, famous Australian movie director Peter Weir appeared as a character witness, testifying to their long friendship and Ricketson's professionalism.
