Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday co-chaired the Fourth Meeting of the China-Indonesia High-level Dialogue Cooperation Mechanism in East Nusa Tenggara, the southernmost province of Indonesia, with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia's coordinator for cooperation with China and coordinating minister of maritime affairs and investment. They engaged in an in-depth exchange of views and reached a broad consensus on practical cooperation in the next stage.
Retno Marsudi, Indonesian Foreign Minister, also attended the meeting.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that China and Indonesia, both representatives of major developing countries and emerging economies, enjoy profound traditional friendship and close and in-depth cooperation. In the past year, leaders of the two countries held two important meetings, which provided strategic guidance for the development of China-Indonesia relations.
Wang said that China has always regarded Indonesia as a partner with a common purpose for development and a good partner for cooperation and has always viewed and developed friendly relations with Indonesia from a strategic and long-term perspective.
"We would like to send our deepest appreciation that my old friend Luhut and Retno continue our strong friendship, as well as our appreciation for recognizing the one-China principle," said Wang.
Wang reaffirmed that China is committed to creating peace and prosperity for both countries, and the Indonesian foreign minister said that guaranteeing peace requires efforts and mutual respect.
"Hard work is needed, mutual respect is needed, and abiding by international laws consistently is also needed to achieve peace," said the Indonesian foreign minister.
Luhut called Wang an "old friend" and commented on the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
"I would like to take this opportunity to re-establish that the High-level Dialogue Cooperation Mechanism is a center of strategic cooperation for the Belt and Road Initiative," said Luhut.
Luhut also said that the country's next administration will continue current President Joko Widodo's programs while keeping the strong friendship between China and Indonesia.
Indonesia's President-elect Prabowo Subianto previously welcomed Wang in Jakarta on Thursday for a private bilateral meeting.
After Indonesia, Wang will continue his trip to visit Cambodia and Papua New Guinea.
