China hopes that the United States faithfully respects the principle of fair competition and abides by the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to create favorable conditions for the sound and steady development of the China-U.S. economic and trade relations, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin at a regular briefing in Beijing on Thursday.

Wang made the comments in response to a media query on the remarks made by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Shanghai.

"China has always conducted economic and trade cooperation in accordance with market principles, firmly supported the multilateral trade system and fully implemented the WTO rules. We hope that the U.S. side earnestly respects the principle of fair competition, observe WTO rules and works with China to create favorable conditions for the sound and steady development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations," said Wang.

Blinken is on a visit to China from April 24 to 26 at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
