Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, an important commodity grain base in the country, saw its grain output in 2023 reach 77.88 billion kilograms, accounting for 11.2 percent of the nation's total, an official said on Friday.

The figures were announced by Governor of Heilongjiang Liang Huiling at a press conference held in Beijing.

Located in one of the three largest black soil belts in the world, Heilongjiang has 17.2 million hectares of arable land, ranking first in China. The grain output of the province in 2023 reached 77.88 billion kilograms, accounting for 11.2 percent of the country. Liang said that, in 2023, Heilongjiang Province rolled out 60 policies supporting innovative development and multiple measures to lead industrial revitalization through sci-tech innovation.

The official said the province will firmly grasp its strategic position in China's overall development and run at full steam for innovative high-quality development.

"We will vigorously build Heilongjiang into an important nation-level commodity grain base, heavy equipment manufacturing base, important energy and raw material base, ecological barrier in north China and new highland for opening to the north, so as to effectively safeguard national defense security, food security, ecological security, energy security, and industrial security, while making solid advances in high-quality development," she said.
