China establishes innovation platform to promote 6G applications

An innovation platform integrated with computing and artificial intelligence has been launched at the ongoing Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing to promote the applications of 6G technology.

While maintaining a high transfer rate, 6G communication technology has better computing power and security performance, which can provide strong support for the development of artificial intelligence. In addition, 6G has greater coverage capability to achieve a qualitative leap in the number of service users.

"I think we can use the terms of higher, faster, stronger to make people better understand 6G. Higher is actually a higher frequency band that provides a higher transfer rate on top of that. We usually think that its peak rate may reach 10 to 100 times that of 5G, so that tens of milliseconds can transmit a high-definition video," said Jin Yidun, deputy head of Zhongguancun Institute of Ubiquitous-X Innovation and Applications.

With the establishment of the innovation platform, 6G technology will be deeply integrated in communication, sensing, intelligence, and computing power to build a more intelligent, interconnected, self-adaptive communication network. It will promote the society from the "Internet of Everything (IoE)" to "artificial intelligence of things (AIoT)".

By about 2030, 6G will be commercially available in areas where infrastructure conditions are met, including China, panelists said at the forum on Saturday.

The 2024 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum) kicked off on April 25, with a focus on cutting-edge fields from artificial intelligence to life sciences and new materials during the five-day session.
