Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, which boasts world-renowned iconic terracotta warriors and other historic landmarks, archaeological sites and scenic spots, has stepped up efforts to boost tourism during the Labor Day holiday between Wednesday and Sunday.

A total of more than 500 activities under five major themes are launched across scenic spots, old streets, shopping malls among others in the culture-rich province, including garden tours, fruit and vegetable picking, camping, as well as performances and interactive experiences of intangible cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, the local traffic police department has taken measures such as deploying additional officers to ease traffic around scenic spots and business districts to enhance travel efficiency.

One of the most popular tourist city in Shaanxi is its provincial capital Xi'an, which has over 3,100 years of history and served as the capital for 13 dynasties in Chinese history. It is also home to the world-renowned terracotta warriors created in the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC). Discovered in 1974 and listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1987, the army of terracotta warriors was built by Emperor Qinshihuang of the Qin Dynasty, who unified China for the first time.

Other historical landmarks include well-preserved ancient city walls used as fortifications for military defense, and the Giant and Small Wild Goose Pagodas, true monuments to Buddhist culture and architecture.

DPP authorities' secession attempts futile, self-deceptive: spokesman

2024-05-22 01:25 Last Updated At:02:17

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' separatist activities are self-deceptive attempts, and they will not hinder the unstoppable trend toward China's reunification, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

Recently, Taiwan's "foreign affairs department" issued a statement protesting the mainland's condemnation over the Taiwan authorities' bribery of Guatemalan leaders and officials in exchange for political support.

Commenting on that at a regular press conference in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, "The facts and evidence on DPP authorities' 'dollar diplomacy' with Guatemala are clear and solid. Guatemala's former president openly admitted that he had received bribery from the Taiwan authorities in exchange for maintaining so-called 'diplomatic relations' with Taiwan. Last year, Taiwan's hospital project in Guatemala was involved in a corruption case. Relevant Guatemalan officials were put into jail. This is just one example of the Taiwan authorities' 'dollar diplomacy.' No matter how angrily they protest or try to deny it, the fact that they sought political support through 'dollar diplomacy' will not change."

"Around the world, 183 countries have established diplomatic ties with China. That proves the DPP authorities' reckless pursuit of 'Taiwan independence' and secession to be futile and self-deceptive. Whatever the DPP authorities does, it will not shake the one-China principle, and will not hinder the unstoppable trend toward China's reunification. We hope that Guatemala and the very few other countries will come to recognize where the trend leads and make the right decision soon," he continued.
