More people are choosing rental cars for travel during the Labor Day holiday.

At a car rental agency in Beijing, many customers came to pick up their booked rental cars ahead of the five-day holiday which started on Wednesday.

"This time I plan to drive home with my girlfriend and her parents. Comparing with round-trip high-speed railway, rental car is actually cheaper. Besides, it's also much more convenient to go around at hometown if I can drive car," said Qiao, a customer.

While for Zhang, he planned to spend the holiday with his friends by driving to northwest China.

"I want to enjoy the grand view of our motherland with friends. Self-driving tour gives us more freedom," he said.

Most of the rented vehicles are SUVs and minivans. The proportion of new energy vehicles has also significantly increased.

Some consumers want to experience more new models during this holiday.

"We want to rent cars first, and then decide which one we want to purchase," Feng said, another customer.

China's total box office revenue on May 20, known as "520" in Chinese, an unofficial Valentine's Day in the country, reached 92.11 million yuan (about 12.8 million U.S. dollars), according to box office monitoring applications.

May 20 is regarded as a romantic day in China, but many viewers opted for comedies and action films on the day. Among the highest-grossing movies on Monday, the comedy "The Last Frenzy" and the action film "Twilight of the Warriors," which were released during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, continue to attract moviegoers. They respectively earned 24.79 million yuan (about 3.49 million U.S. dollars) and 16.98 million yuan (about 2.39 million U.S. dollars) at the box office, holding the first and second positions in the daily rankings.

The newly released romantic film "Beyond Youthful Days" earned a daily box office of 16.09 million yuan (about 2.27 million U.S. dollars), ranking the third and being the only romance movie in the top five daily earners.

Although romantic films did not perform as well as expected on May 20, this special day has become an opportune moment for upcoming romantic movies to unveil their themed promotional contents, capturing audience's interest with a variety of posters and video clips.
