In celebration of China's Youth Day, a freshman broadcasting student in the country shared her ambitions regarding both her career and her generation.
Mian Xukun, a student at the Communication University of Zhejiang, highlighted the impactful role that young bilingual broadcasters have had in sharing China's story with the world. "The reason I chose to major in Bilingual Broadcasting is because it's so dynamic. It requires broadcasters to express information as completely as possible. There is one story that impressed me most. During the 19th Asian Games, students in my major worked as Chinese and English announcers at the opening ceremony and awards ceremony for each event. They spoke fluent Chinese and English to show the energy of Chinese youth to all athletes," said Mian.
The freshman added that in her view, the voice of China's youth is only growing. "Another thing that impressed me is the huge transformation of media in the period that my generation grew up. I can see that the voice of the youth is being taken more seriously today. There are more ways for our voices to be heard. In the era of self-media, more young people can share their views on social media, and spread the story of China as they see it," she said
Looking forward, Mian aspires to become a distinguished bilingual journalist post-graduation, with a special focus on sharing Chinese culture with the world.
"I hope to become an excellent bilingual journalist after graduation, using fluent Chinese and English to show the world the real China. I want to shift my attention to intangible cultural heritage in my future study and work, and I want to talk to more inheritors of intangible culture and let the world learn more about the rich and colorful Chinese culture through their stories," the student said.
Mian extended her best wishes to young people globally on the Youth Day.
"I would like to send wishes to all young people around the world on the occasion of China's Youth Day. Our youth is precious, and it is worth cherishing. No matter which country we come from or what major we major in, we should work together and contribute our strengths to build a better world," she said.
