The relations between China and Serbia have become stronger over time, with fruitful results yielded from cooperation in various fields, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming said on Wednesday.

At the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Serbia in coming days, eight years after his last visit to the European country.

"President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Serbia in 2016 when China and Serbia established the comprehensive strategic partnership, which elevated the bilateral relations to a new level and ushered in a new phase for pragmatic cooperation between the two countries. Fruitful results have been yielded over the past eight years," said Li.

Li noted that the high-quality joint building of the "Belt and Road" between China and Serbia has also yielded fruitful results, injecting vigorous impetus into the economic development of the two countries and bringing substantial benefits to their people.

"The first bridge, the first railway and the first highway built by Chinese companies in Europe are all in Serbia. The construction of these infrastructure projects has effectively promoted the connectivity within Serbia, greatly driven the economic and social development of the regions along the routes, significantly improved people's livelihood, and settled the employment problem for a large number of people. The joint building of high-quality 'Belt and Road' has also yielded fruitful results," Li said.

The Chinese ambassador said that President Xi's upcoming state visit fully demonstrates the great importance China attaches to its relationship with Serbia, and the ties between the two countries have withstood the test of time and will show new vitality.

"Over the past eight years, profound changes have taken place in the international landscape. However, the China-Serbia relations have withstood the test of international vicissitudes as one saying goes, 'true steel is tempered through a hundred trials.' The ironclad friendship between China and Serbia has endured the test of time and grown much stronger and more resilient. And the ironclad friendship between China and Serbia has also shown new vitality and splendor in the new era," said Li.
