Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his wife were waiting at Budapest Airport Wednesday to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Xi is paying a state visit to the country at the invitation of President Tamas Sulyok and Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary.

Hungary is the last stop of Xi's three-nation European tour from May 5 to 10, which has seen the Chinese president pay state visits to France and Serbia.

The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has risen to 35,456, health authorities in the Palestinian enclave said in a press statement on Sunday.

Over the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 70 Palestinians and wounded 110 others, bringing the total death toll to 35,456 and injuries to more than 79,000 since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out last October, said the statement.

The health authorities emphasized that the medical emergency and civil defense workers are facing challenges in carrying out rescue operation as a large number of casualties are buried under the rubble.
