Henan Province in central China is one of the country's major grain-producing region and is now gearing up efforts to boost seed industry so as to secure grain output, said Provincial Governor Wang Kai at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

According to statistics, Henan's grain output has exceeded 65 billion kilograms for seven consecutive years. As a major grain-producing province, Henan's total grain-sowing area has been above 160 million mu (about 10.67 million hectares).

Currently, the province accounts for a quarter of the country's wheat output, and it ranks first in the country in terms of oil and edible fungi outputs and second in terms of vegetables and poultry eggs.

"Grain production is a superior advantage for Henan Province. We cannot and will not lose this superior advantage at any time or under any circumstances. We are vigorously implementing actions to revitalize the seed industry. At present, the coverage rate of improved varieties of major crops in the province exceeds 97 percent, and high-quality seeds contribute to over 45 percent of the increase in grain production," said Wang.

Moreover, Henan Province is also cultivating and strengthening the advanced agricultural machinery and equipment industry chain.

Additionally, it is planning and constructing high-standard farmland demonstration zones and implementing a series of measures to continuously enhance grain production capacity.

China adds some U.S. companies to unreliable entities list

2024-05-20 15:16 Last Updated At:15:37

China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday the inclusion of some companies on its unreliable entities list as they sold arms to China's Taiwan region.

The companies include General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems, and Boeing Defense, Space and Security. They will be barred from engaging in China-related import or export activities, and are forbidden to make new investments in China, the ministry said.

Senior executives of the companies are prohibited from entering China, while their work permits will be revoked, along with their visitor and residential status, and the related applications they submit will not be approved, according to the ministry.

"Such measures are being taken to safeguard China's national sovereignty, security and development interests," it said.

The ministry also said there was evidence that Caplugs of the United States circumvented the unreliable entities list regulations by transferring goods purchased from China to the unreliable entities.

The ministry urged Caplugs to take measures as soon as possible to ensure that all relevant goods, technologies and services purchased from China are not transferred to the unreliable entities, and that relevant evidentiary material be submitted to the office of the unreliable entities list as per the working mechanism.

Otherwise, the ministry said, the office will take measures against it in accordance with the laws and regulations.
