China will continue to uphold the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and actively participate in international humanitarian affairs, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
According to Pierre Krahenbuhl, director-general of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), China has a significant impact on promoting international humanitarian cooperation, and the ICRC looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China in advancing the international humanitarian cause.
When asked to comment on Krahenbuhl's remarks, Lin said that "The Chinese government attaches great importance to the international humanitarian cause."
"President Xi Jinping has pointed out that humanitarianism is the greatest consensus that unites different civilizations. The concept of fine traditional Chinese culture is in line with the spirit of the Red Cross, and China is a proactive supporter, participant, and contributor to the international humanitarian cause," said Lin.
"Currently, the global humanitarian situation remains severe, with prolonged conflicts and frequent crises in certain regions. Humanitarian needs remain high, requiring concerted efforts from all parties. China will continue to uphold the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and actively participate in international humanitarian affairs, contributing China's part to world peace and wellbeing of humanity," said Lin.
