There has been a one-week suspension of the show ever since Jimmy's mother, Gloria, died just a week ago. Jimmy started the episode by a sensational tribute to her, during which he said:

After the broadcast of the show, Mike DiCenzo, the producer for The Tonight Show, pile praises for Taylor's performance on his Twitter.

He told that Taylor hadn't got a plan to perform on the show, but they intended to do something special since it was Jimmy's first return to the show. Therefore, they sent an invitation to Taylor and she consented to it without hesitation.

Before that, Jimmy hadn't revealed the story about his mother and "New Year's Day" was absolutely brand new to everyone. So as soon as Taylor started the concrete lyrics, everyone began to cry.

When the performance came to an end, Taylor couldn't help and walk to Jimmy to give him a warm hug.

DiCenzo said on his Twitter, "Whatever you think of Taylor, she did something beautiful for Jimmy and our show today. And we're forever grateful."
