Wild Asian elephant filmed 'smoking' in India forest

It's the first time a wildlife elephant was captured 'smoking'!

An Asian elephant was captured to be smoking in a forest in southern India. which surprised netizens but confused wildlife experts.


The 48-second video shows the elephant picking up something in its mouth before blowing out a gust of smoke.

Biologists from Wildlife Conservation Society said the clip was actually shot in April 2016 but only recently posted online. They believed this was 'the first known video documentation of a wild elephant exhibiting such behavior, and has scientists and experts puzzled'.

An expert said charcoal had toxin-binding properties that could have medicinal value for the animals.
