The largest in Australia and the second-large in the world!
A gigantic swordfish weighing 436.2 kg has been recently found in the New South Coast, Australia. Local fishermen have been fighting for also two hours to "defeat" the fish.
Captain George Lirantzis, from Ulladulla, sailed for fishing last Sunday with Mitch Ryan, Ken, and Pete Rushton. They drove the boat to the sea 75 kilometers from Maracuta.
They did not have any gains at the beginning while they even let go of a swordfish and a shark. But about 3 pm, the huge swordfish was hooked.
Even the giant creature was swimming 50 metres around their boat, they spent 1hr and 50 mins to pick this fish.
The swordfish is the largest in Australia and the second-large in the world, which requires four men to pull it out of the water.
George said they usually needed more time for catching swordfish while some people have tried to fight with them for almost a day. He thought they were lucky this time.
According to documents, the largest swordfish was recorded with 536.1kg found in 1953 in Chile while, originally, the second-large was found in New Zealand in 2015, which the fishermen spent 8 hours to catch the 370kg creature.
The chairman of the Ulladulla Game Fishing Club said that this swordfish has been frozen at the Ulladulla Fishing Co-Op and will be made into a specimen.
