Arachnophobes be warned! Just seeing the creepy-crawlies makes one's skin crawl...
While you might've seen lots of videos of kittens and puppies being born, have you ever seen footage of spiders being delivered? American YouTuber "Deadly Tarantula Girl" recently took a short film of exactly this.
Marita Lorbiecke, from South Carolina, said she had a deep interest in spiders since she was 8 years old, and has done extensive research on them since then.
She states that she has been breeding and hatching these arachnids since the 90's. She also points out that many tarantulas do not have a suitable living environment in the wild, therefore manual breeding in conservation centres are of paramount importance.
Lorbiecke introduces: "This 'Brazilian white-tailed tarantula' was born in 2013 and is named 'Misty'. It's currently five years old."
Whilst a normal person might be scared out of one's wits if made to handle tarantulas so closely, Marita doesn't even flinch as she gently pulls the egg sac from 'Misty' and carefully cuts through the layers of silk, revealing what looks like thousands of tiny spiders crawling around.
While these hair-covered tarantulas were once a common sight in the United States, Mexico and tropical America, they are slowly becoming extinct due to habitat destruction and excessive capturing by humans. Some species of tarantulas have already been classified as endangered.
