Most expensive liquid in world: Venom of Deathstalker Scorpions worths US$39 million per gallon

Only a drop equals one's annual salary, or even more!

Deathstalker Scorpion is one of the most dangerous scorpions, while its venom is also the most expensive liquid in the world. Some reports have recently revealed its cost, which is a shocking price US$39 million per gallon.

It is so expensive due to the difficult collecting method of the liquid. Scorpions are almost milked by hand, one by one, and at the most, just two milligrams of venom can be collected at one time, meaning 2.64 million times of squeezing to produce a gallon.

Steve Trim, the founder of Venomtech, a US drug research website, specializing in scorpion venom, said that being stung by the Deathstalker is "100 times more painful than bee stings." The venom contains a large number of precious ingredients that can help develop breakthrough drugs, for example, its chlorotoxin is able to bind perfectly to cancer cells in the brain and spine, helping identify the exact size and location of the tumor. Chlorotoxin can also be used to eradicate malaria in mosquitoes. Another ingredient Kaliotoxin helps mice fight bone diseases.

Scientists are still conducting in-depth research on scorpions, in hopes of developing more medical uses. They have also invented venom-squeezing machines, four times faster than humans.

Scorpions are arthropods with poisonous stings. It is currently known that 25 species of scorpions are harmful to humans. Deathstalker Scorpion has a golden yellow body, a relatively short tail, and about 3-8 cm long. They have a pair of strong limbs, distributed in the desert areas of North Africa and the Middle East.
