In Haiti, vendors salvaged merchandise from the burned ruins of the Guerite Market in Port-au-Prince.

After fertilizing some 800 offspring and contributing substantially to the salvation of one of the giant turtle species of the Galapagos Islands, a more than 100-year-old turtle known as Diego is being returned to Española Island, where he was extracted more than eight decades ago.

Demonstrators marched in Brazil's capital to protest a bus fare hike of almost 10%, to about $1.27.
