A quick look at the French Open:

Rafael Nadal is a 12-time champion at Roland Garros, and Dominic Thiem was the runner-up to the King of Clay each of the past two years in Paris. Still, neither can boast what their fourth-round opponents Sunday can: unbeaten career records at the French Open. No. 1 seed Nadal is close, though, with a 96-2 career mark at the Grand Slam tournament that he has ruled like no one ever has ruled a Grand Slam tournament. He will face Sebastian Korda of the United States at Court Philippe Chatrier, where U.S. Open champion Thiem plays Hugo Gaston of France. Korda and Gaston are both 20, both ranked outside of the Top 200 and both making their first appearances at the French Open, so they’re both 3-0 at the place. Another man making his tournament debut, 19-year-old Jannik Sinner, takes on U.S. Open runner-up Alexander Zverev over at Court Suzanne Lenglen. If Korda, Gaston or Sinner were to win, they would become the first man to reach the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in an initial appearance since — yes, you guessed it — Nadal in 2005. Women’s fourth-round matchups include No. 1 seed Simona Halep against 19-year-old Iga Swiatek of Poland, No. 3 Elina Svitolina against Caroline Garcia of France, and No. 5 Kiki Bertens against Martina Trevisan of Italy.
