Uruguay will set up a football club in south China's Hainan Province to promote football and cultural cooperation, according to a framework agreement signed on Wednesday.
The framework agreement was signed by Uruguay's sports bureau, the Hainan international business council and a local cultural company.
Uruguay and Hainan will organize exchange visits, joint training and exchange competitions of high-level football teams, allowing Uruguayan football coaches to carry out football training for children and young people in Hainan Province, according to the agreement.
"The establishment of the Uruguayan football club in Hainan can introduce Uruguayan culture and delicacies to Hainan, such as football, tango, and beef barbecue, and we also hope bring Chinese culture and investment to Uruguay, " said Fernando Lugris, Uruguayan ambassador to China.
