South Africa won the second one-day international against India and the series on Friday by chasing down a target of 288 with ease.

South Africa finished on 288-3 for a seven-wicket victory with 11 balls remaining. South Africa leads the ODI contest 2-0 and clinched the series ahead of a final game in Cape Town on Sunday.

An opening partnership of 132 between Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock set up South Africa's victory on Friday on a scorching hot day in the wine-producing city of Paarl near Cape Town, where temperatures went past 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).

India chose to bat first and had half-centuries from captain KL Rahul (55) and Rishabh Pant, who produced another sparkling innings with for his 85 from 71 balls with 10 fours and two sixes. Rahul and Pant combined for a 115-run stand for the third wicket but India didn't build on that momentum on a good batting strip.

India slumped from a promising start to its tour and a big victory in the first test to lose that series 2-1, and now has also gone down in the ODIs.

An opening partnership of 132 between Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock set up South Africa's victory on Friday on a scorching hot day in the wine-producing city of Paarl near Cape Town, where temperatures went past 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).

De Kock made 78 and Malan went on to score 91 before he was denied a century by India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

India also got South Africa captain Temba Bavuma for 35 but Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram saw the Proteas home, even if Markram had to scramble and dive for the crease for the match and series-winning single.

Virat Kohli had already gone for a duck when he mistimed a drive off spinner Keshav Maharaj and it went straight to Bavuma.

The tail did its best with 40 not out from Shardul Thakur and 25 not out from Ravichandran Ashwin but India needed much more on the batter-friendly surface.
