Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday afternoon held a welcome ceremony for Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz in Beijing.

The ceremony was held at the square outside the east gate of the Great Hall of the People.

To welcome the German chancellor, the military band played national anthems of Germany and China. A 19-gun salute was fired on the occasion.

Scholz, accompanied by Li, reviewed the guard of honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. They then watched the march-past together.

Scholz is on an official visit to China from April 14 to 16 at the invitation of Li.

The commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces Oleksandr Syrsky said on Sunday that the position on the frontline had deteriorated and that Russia had made a number of battlefield gains.

Russia has been "attacking along the entire front line" and has achieved "tactical success in some sectors", Syrsky posted on the social media platform Facebook.

Ukraine is consulting with partners to ensure it received ammunition, weapons and other military equipment as soon as possible, Syrsky added.

Russia has made no responses to the Ukrainian statement so far.
