Two more batches of Chinese humanitarian aid supplies to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, including tents, blankets, cotton clothing, medical supplies, flour and other items, arrived at Al-Arish airport and Port Said in Egypt respectively on Thursday and Friday.

These aid supplies will be transported to the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing, the only crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip dubbed as a "life passage" for the Gazans.

To ease the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Chinese government has continued to provide aid for the Palestinians and has sent several batches of food, medicine and other emergency humanitarian aid supplies to the strip through Egypt, according to the Chinese embassy in Egypt.

"Since the outbreak of the latest round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict [on October 7, 2023], China has actively played the role of a responsible major country and has provided a batch of cash assistance and two batches of emergency humanitarian aid supplies, including food, medicine and medical supplies, to the Gaza Strip through Egypt. Throughout this process, the Chinese Embassy in Egypt has been actively coordinating with various Egyptian government departments, the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, and other organizations to ensure that the Chinese humanitarian aid reaches the people of Gaza in a safe and timely manner," said Zhao Liang, Minister Counselor at Chinese Embassy in Egypt.

In November last year, the Chinese government provided 40 truckloads of emergency humanitarian aid supplies to the Gaza Strip. On March 27, 450 tons of rice provided by China arrived at Port Said in Egypt.

Regarding China's active assistance, the Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Diab Al-Louh appreciated China's consistent support for the just cause of the Palestinian people, and for the country's upholding of justice for the Palestinians and efforts to speak out for justice on international occasions.

As the people of Gaza are currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis, the friendly government and people of China have provided crucial emergency humanitarian assistance to Gaza during this critical time. The Palestinian government and people express sincere gratitude and deep respect to China for its timely and meaningful assistance, according to the Palestinian ambassador.

Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing went to Meizhou in south China's Guangdong Province on Thursday to handle the disaster of expressway collapse in a section at Chayang early on Wednesday. Zhang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has stressed sparing no effort in carrying out rescue and post-disaster relief work while guiding the emergency response work in Meizhou.

Following General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping's instructions and Premier Li Qiang's request, Zhang led officials from relevant departments of the center government to guide the rescue and disaster relief work on the site.

Zhang learned about rescue operations on the site and then went to the Meizhou People's Hospital to see the injured, asking the medical workers there to go all-out in the treatment.

When chairing a meeting on the rescue and disaster relief work on Thursday evening, Zhang urged efforts to ensure timely rescue work and minimize disabilities caused by injuries.

Efforts should be made to repair the damaged roads and restore traffic order as soon as possible, said Zhang, adding that information should be released timely in response to public concern.

Lessons should be drawn from the accident and more should be done to improve disaster prevention and response capabilities, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property and the overall social stability, the vice premier said.

Zhang also called for efforts to monitor the weather in the flood season closely and strengthen early warning and joint emergency responses, so as to minimize disaster losses.
