China's second domestically-built large cruise ship has been under final assembly in Shanghai on Saturday, signifying the construction acceleration of the cruise ship, according to the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited.
The second domestically built large cruise ship has entered the No. 2 dock in east China's Shanghai, according to the country's top shipbuilder.
After entering the dry dock, the ship's sections will be rapidly assembled together like building blocks, significantly accelerating the overall construction of the cruise ship.
"Entering the dock is a significant milestone in the shipbuilding process, as it signifies that the ship will undergo continuous construction in the subsequent stages, with a fast-paced workflow," said Chen Jianwei, construction director, large cruise ship project of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
The cruise ship, measuring 341 meters in length with a gross tonnage of 141,900 tonnes, can accommodate up to 5,232 passengers.
At the same time, the number of guest rooms has also increased by 19 to 2,144, and two new desulfurization systems and five sets of advanced environmental protection equipment have been added to make the entire ship more green and environmentally friendly.
Meanwhile, the ship is also equipped with a towering 16-storey living and entertainment area, featuring a large-scale performing arts center, a large canteen, a restaurant with specialties, art galleries, and other abundant leisure and entertainment facilities.
By optimizing the design layout, the public living and outdoor recreational space of the second domestically built large cruise ship have also increased to 25,599 square meters and 14,272 square meters respectively.
"This time, we mainly adopted a Chinese-style design with a predominant color scheme of gold and red, incorporating many Chinese elements. The overall space, including the increase in indoor and outdoor spaces, will greatly enhance people's sense of comfort and amenity," said Wang Zhangjian, deputy technical manager of large cruise ship project of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
The cruise ship is set to depart from the dock by late March 2026, with trial sailing commencing in June 2026. The naming and delivery of the cruise ship will be made before the end of 2026, said the shipbuilder.
