The four-day German AERO Friedrichshafen concluded on Saturday, on which experts and exhibitors highlighted the green transformation of the global aviation industry.
The AERO Friedrichshafen is the first true general aviation show in Germany and Europe. At the event this year, tens of thousands of experts, scholars, and business representatives gathered to discuss the latest trends in the industry, and jointly explore the huge potential and infinite possibilities of new energy technology and green development.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the AERO Friedrichshafen, and the scale of the event is unprecedented. Among more than 680 exhibitors from 38 countries, 60 exhibited electric aircraft, and 60 focused on aircraft powered by low-carbon aviation fuel.
"The aviation sector is very important because their carbon emissions happen in the atmosphere, it's not on the ground. The concept of, or the idea of how to reduce carbon emissions is very important. More and more innovation will emerge with different technologies happening, and the participation in those innovation is going to be more global, more interconnected," said Raafat George Saade, chief scientist at the Global Aviation Development Academy.
Experts said that due to the extremely high requirements for battery energy density and power density, the electrification of aircraft faces more severe challenges than the automotive industry. In this context, international cooperation is particularly important.
"Coming here is essential to see what everyone else is working on, and develop partnership with all these companies. Because if you try and tackle something like aviation on your own, you will find it extraordinarily difficult, extraordinarily expensive and extraordinarily slow. I think it's fantastic to see what the Chinese companies have brought here and their innovation," said Fergus Flanagan, director of Hybrid Aero Limited.
