Around 1,000 people from various circles of China and Russia joined a celebration of the United Nations Chinese Language Day in Moscow on Saturday.

The attendees said that the learning of the Chinese language has been promoting people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning between the two countries.

"The Chinese language is more than just a tool. It is also closely linked to the all-encompassing and profound Chinese culture," said Kouzina Anna, the global champion of the fourth "Chinese Bridge" Chinese proficiency competition for university students.

"I've been studying the Chinese language for 12 years. The biggest opportunity the 'Chinese Bridge' competition brought me is that I can choose to study in China. I'm planning to study international education on Chinese language at Nanjing University. I may become a Chinese language teacher in the future, as I want to impart my knowledge and encourage more people to learn the Chinese culture and love the Chinese language," said Danil Pyshnyi, the global champion of the 16th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese proficiency competition for middle school students.

The China Media Group (CMG) promoted its event of "Written in the Sky: My China Story" to invite more people to share their exclusive stories about China.

The coast guard authority of east China's Fujian Province implemented a regular law enforcement patrol in the waters around Kinmen on Friday, in efforts to uphold order in the maritime area and ensure the safety of mainland fishermen's lives and property.

As an annual fishing moratorium began on May 1, the frequency of patrols is expected to increase in the weeks ahead.

"Before implementation of the mission, we conducted detailed examinations on the telecommunication and navigation equipment, so as to get fully prepared for various maritime emergencies," said officer Guo Jianfan with the Fujian Coast Guard Bureau.

The Fujian Coast Guard Bureau will increase intensity, frequency and scope of the patrols.

On Feb. 14, a Fujian fishing boat was forcefully expelled by Taiwan authorities in the waters of Kinmen area, which led to all four aboard falling into the sea, and two of them died.
