The China-proposed Global Security Initiative is helping lay the groundwork for the development of all countries by ensuring the prerequisite security conditions, said analysts and scholars from around the world.

In response to mounting conflicts and security challenges in today's world, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Security Initiative at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference on April 21, 2022.

Experts spanning the continents agreed that China's efforts to join hands with parties across the globe to implement the initiative over the past two years have helped promote peace and security.

"The world is changing rapidly, and those issues that were included in the Global Security Initiative were also adjusted, modified, and updated by the Chinese side," said Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

"President Xi Jinping presented a blueprint for how to achieve security in the world, and especially in the backdrop of a number of challenges. We must appreciate that President Xi Jinping's Global Security Initiative is like a whiff of fresh air. It is important to understand that prosperity and development cannot take place without security because security is like the roots of a tree. Without the roots, the tree does not grow," said Sultan Hali, a Pakistani analyst and author on international affairs.

"President Xi Jinping proposed the Chinese Global Security Initiative, which pursues building common security in the world and supports a new path to security featuring dialogue over confrontation," said Kheir Diabat, a professor of the International Affairs Department at Qatar University.

These types of initiatives are very, very important for global peace. So, it's an inquisitorial way of dealing with global peace and security issues instead of confrontation and zero-sum thinking. It's something that the world needs at this point in time. I mean the understanding, cooperation, collaboration, peace -- that's exactly what this world needs today," said Igshaan Higgins, a South African current affairs commentator.

Many experts stressed the timely nature of the initiative, noting an array of obstacles to achieving global peace that it aims to address.

"We need to ensure the security of individuals and countries. The purpose of security is development. China's Global Security Initiative covers a wide range of subjects, conducive to promoting the development of individual countries," said José Luis Beas, president of the Peruvian National Center for Advanced Research.

"In today's world, when the wars that we are witnessing in different countries, the wars that were going on or are still going on, these are being waged by modern technology. So, in order to manage these wars and to create security, a higher technology system is needed, and this Global Security Initiative system can answer all of these issues," said Sayed Abdullah Husaini, an expert on international affairs from Afghanistan.

"Every country and every nation, every region of the world wants to develop in peace and security, and so the Chinese proposal is critical. It's very important, especially now when we are facing challenges," said Euston Chiputa, a Zambian political scientist.

Shanghai, China's financial hub, and several other eastern Chinese cities have been flooded due to Typhoon Pulasan, and drainage efforts are in full swing.

Pulasan, the 14th typhoon of the year, made its second landfall in Shanghai's Fengxian District at around 21:45 on Thursday after first making landfall earlier that day in Zhejiang Province.

Since midnight on Friday, parts of Shanghai's Pudong New Area have experienced increasingly heavy rainfall, resulting in flooded streets and temporary school closures.

Local authorities have intensified drainage efforts on waterlogged roads and in swamped neighborhoods.

Similarly, in neighboring Jiangsu Province, Rugao, a county-level city, was hit by a downpour from 7:00 to 17:00 on Friday. By 18:00, local firefighters had responded to more than 60 cases, carrying out drainage and rescue operations.
