Int’l community already sees through US hegemony in guise of human rights

China is firmly opposed to the so-called report on human rights made by the United states, and the U.S. hegemony in the guise of human rights has long been seen through by the international community, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang made the remarks in response to the 2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices released by the U.S. Department of State on Monday.

"The U.S. has been making the so-called report on human rights year after year, and the China-related content in them is full of political lies and ideological bias. China is firmly opposed to it. The people of China are best positioned to judge the human rights conditions in China. We have secured a historic success in eradicating absolute poverty; we are developing whole-process people's democracy, and we have established the world's largest education, social security, and health care systems, giving our people a growing sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security. We have found a path toward better human rights that follows the trend of the times and fits our national realities. Polls conducted by Harvard University in the U.S. for more than ten consecutive years have shown that Chinese people's satisfaction rate of the Chinese government exceeds 90 percent," said Wang.

"However, this so-called human rights report from the U.S. side jabs fingers at and spouts off the human rights situation in nearly 200 countries and regions around the world, except for itself. This once again exposes the selfish nature of the U.S. hegemony and bullying and its hypocritical double standard featuring its actions that don't match its words. If the U.S. really cares about human rights, it should face up to and properly solve the problems of gun violence, drug proliferation, racial discrimination, and the violation of human rights and dignity within the U.S., and it should face up to and reflect on the human rights disaster caused by the U.S. foreign intervention and the provision of arms and adding fuel to conflict areas," said Wang.

"The U.S. ignores the casualties of more than 110,000 civilian in Gaza and vetoed UN Security Council efforts to promote an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for four consecutive times. This is the best proof that the U.S. ignores and tramples on human rights. The U.S. hegemony in the guise of human right has long been seen through by the international community. What the U.S. should do is to reflect on itself, solve its own problems first, stop lecturing other countries on human rights, stop jabbing fingers at the human rights situation in other countries, and stop willfully interfering in other countries' internal affairs, violating other countries' human rights and exporting conflicts and turmoil in the name of human rights and democracy," said Wang.

Vanuatu's PM commends China's cultural preservation, innovation amid fast growth

On his second official visit to China, Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu Charlot Salwai expressed admiration for China's remarkable ability to balance preserving its cultural heritage with embracing innovative transformation.

Salwai paid an official visit to China from July 7 to 12. During his trip, he toured the southern province of Guangdong and explored the megacities of Beijing and Shanghai. His visit included tours of high-tech companies, a ride on a high-speed train, and a performance of traditional Cantonese opera.

In an interview with China Central Television Network (CCTV) aired on Friday, Salwai recounted his journey starting with a warm welcome that included enjoying Beijing Roast Duck, also known as Peking Duck -- a culinary delight introduced to him by the Chinese ambassador in Vanuatu.

"Many had to say. Peking Duck. Because we had it here on our arrival, so it was very tasty. And I understand that the Chinese ambassador in Vanuatu brought us to one of the traditional restaurants, small but beautiful," he said. The prime minister sees China's preservation of its culture as a vital lesson in understanding one's roots and the journey to the present day, acknowledging China's efforts to integrate cultural preservation with modernization.

"It's going to be my second official visit to China. I'm always impressed to see big changes and especially innovations made by China and especially the cities. Because a big impression is to see how China continues to maintain and keep its culture. Because I think it's the basis of everything -- to know where you come from and to understand where we are today. I feel that China is doing a lot to maintain its culture, but at the same time, doing, innovating to transform its culture,” Salwai said.

He also emphasized the importance of learning from China's sustainable development strategies.

"Today, it comes from a long way, some hardship, the government, and also the people of China. So, I'm impressed to see what is done, especially how China associates infrastructure development with nature. That's meant to keep, continue to keep the environment. It takes effort with the climate change by maintaining the ecosystem. I think it's something that, for a small country like Vanuatu, is important to learn. So, we are here. I'm here with my delegation to learn," Salwai said.
