French photographer Gregoire de Gaulle, who is also the grandnephew of former French President Charles de Gaulle, was impressed with China's rapid development as he has recorded 40 years of the country's transformation.
As a photographer, he has been to China several times. But for him, this year is quite special.
"This year is a very important year, because this year marks the 60th anniversary since France and China established diplomatic relations. Actually, I came to China 10 years ago for an exhibition when both of us were celebrating the 50th year of diplomatic ties," said de Gaulle.
He has witnessed the development of China as well as the opening-up of the country with his camera. In his eyes, the modernization in urban areas is the most prominent change.
"The modernization of China is so important. And I'm really shocked by China's rapid and progressive development. The technological achievements have also seen great progress, and people's lives have seen great changes. What impresses me the most is that the cities have become so large, with so many urban residents," de Gaulle said.
His granduncle, President Charles de Gaulle, made great contributions to the establishment of China-France ties; while his father, Bernard de Gaulle, is known as the "messenger" of Chinese-French friendship. He himself is also dedicated to promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.
There is a close connection between China and the de Gaulle family, he believes.
"I can feel so much friendship (between my family and the Chinese people). I find Chinese people have really deep emotions toward our family. I hope in the future, there will be a fourth generation to carry on our friendship," he noted.
