Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Peru's Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea Franco in Beijing on Monday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, recalled the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peruvian President Dina Boluarte in San Francisco last November, highlighting that it charted the course for advancing the development of China-Peru relations.

China stands ready to work with Peru to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and push the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level, Wang said.

He noted that China and Peru are both important members of the Global South, and China is willing to communicate and coordinate closely with Peru on major issues and firmly defend the common interests of the developing countries.

For his part, Gonzalez highlighted that Peru adheres firmly to the one-China principle, and is willing to enhance solidarity and mutual trust with China, expand practical cooperation and work for more results in bilateral relations.
