Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Tanzania's Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation January Yusuf Makamba in Beijing on Friday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, welcomed Makamba's visit to China on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Wang said the China-Tanzania friendship has a solid foundation and sets a good example for developing countries' solidarity and mutual assistance.

Wang said that China appreciates Tanzania's long-term valuable support on the issues concerning China's core interests, and is willing to continue to firmly support Tanzania in safeguarding sovereignty, security, and development interests.

China supports Tanzania in independently exploring a development path that suits its own national conditions and opposing interference from external forces, said Wang.

China is ready to deepen political mutual trust, strengthen strategic alignment and expand practical cooperation with Tanzania, Wang noted.

For his part, Makamba said that Tanzania and China enjoy profound traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 60 years ago, the two sides have always trusted and supported each other. Tanzania will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy and unswervingly support China on the issues involving China's core interests and major concerns.

Tanzania highly appreciates and firmly supports the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Belt and Road Initiative and the three major global initiatives, which were proposed by President Xi Jinping, Makamba said.

During their meeting, the two ministers also discussed a new meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation which will be held in autumn in Beijing and expressed their willingness to make greater contributions to safeguarding the common interests of the Global South.

They also had an in-depth exchange of views on international and regional issues of mutual interest and common concern.
