China's first competition focusing on data element development and application kicked off in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province on Thursday.

The National Data Administration (NDA) jointly organized and implemented this competition called "Data Element X" with 15 other departments including the Cyberspace Administration of China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Commerce.

The competition aims to unleash the multiplier effects of data element empowerment in solving practical problems, officials said.

"We will bring out more scenarios, activates more entities, and enliven more data. By promoting research and application through competition, we can promote astronomical rise in data empowerment," said NDA head Liu Liehong.

The competition sets 12 topics of industrial manufacturing, modern agriculture, commerce and circulation, transportation, financial services, technological innovation, cultural tourism, medical healthcare, emergency management, meteorological services, urban governance, and green and low carbon development.

All kinds of entities, including public institutions, enterprises, research agencies and universities are encouraged to participate to win considerable investment funds and high-level business docking channels, and the national finals will be held in the fourth quarter of this year after regional rounds, according to officials.

Chinese athletes have won Paris 2024 Paralympic Games qualification in 19 different sports, said the China Disabled Persons Federation on Monday.

As Monday is 100 days away from the opening of the Paris Paralympics, the federation held a meeting in Beijing sharing preparations of Chinese athletes to the grand event.

The Paris Paralympic Games, to be held from August 28 to September 8, will award medals across 549 events in 22 different sports including archery, badminton, blind football, equestrian, triathlon and wheelchair rugby, 10 more events than that in the Tokyo Paralympics held in 2021.

It is expected that more than 4,400 athletes from 160 countries and regions will compete in the Games.

According to the federation, Chinese athletes have now won qualification in 19 different sports including track and field, wheelchair basketball, archery, weightlifting and swimming.
