At least two men on a grounded Philippine military vessel pointed guns at a China Coast Guard (CCG) team patrolling in the waters off Ren'ai Jiao on May 19.

The personnel on BRP Sierra Madre, a Philippine military vessel that was illegally run aground at China's Ren'ai Jiao in 1999, were receiving an air-drop supply when the CCG responded in accordance with the law.

The footage provided by the CCG shows at least two men on the BRP Sierra Madre holding rifles and even pointing them in the direction of CCG officers.

Despite the Philippines' increasingly aggressive provocations in the South China Sea, China has indisputable sovereignty over Nansha Qundao (Nansha Islands) including Ren'ai Jiao and their adjacent waters.

Customs clearance with higher efficiency promotes border trade

2024-07-18 21:27 Last Updated At:21:37

Land ports in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have improved the customs clearance for trucks, greatly facilitating the border trade.

The Youyi Pass, also known as Friendship Pass, on the China-Vietnam border is an important cross-national trade channel. It not only plays a significant role in exporting Chinese goods to Vietnam and other ASEAN countries, but also is China's largest land port for fruit import and export.

The enhanced customs clearance has made trucks come and go much easier.

"With the improved customs clearance, along with better cold chain preservation technology, our company's durian sales this year have increased by 20 percent year on year. The durian order volume has reached some 600 containers," said Liang Ru, a freight forwarding agent of a local trade company.

Data shows that, in the first half of 2024, 736,000 vehicles passed through Guangxi's land ports, up 49 percent year on year, hitting a new record high.

During the same period of time, Guangxi also opened four land ports, vitalizing the border trade.
