Chinese Premier Li Qiang Friday called on the educational communities of China and New Zealand to cooperate more closely when addressing the closing ceremony of the China-New Zealand Education Development Forum.

Li attended the closing ceremony in Auckland with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and delivered a speech. About 160 university presidents and other education professionals of both countries attended the ceremony.

The new round of sci-tech revolution is profoundly changing the way of human production and life, and education is facing higher requirements in reform and innovation. The educational communities of China and New Zealand should therefore cooperate more closely, Li said.

Li said that Chinese and New Zealand universities have always played an important role in promoting educational exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. All relevant parties should focus on the direction of the world's sci-tech revolution and industrial transformation, the common challenges facing human society, and the actual needs of the people of the two countries for education, so as to better promote talent training, joint scientific research, and academic exchanges, he said.

In the next five years, China will provide New Zealand with 100 international Chinese-language teacher scholarships, 1,000 opportunities for "Chinese Bridge" summer camps in China, and 5,000 copies of Chinese textbooks. China welcomes more young New Zealanders to learn Chinese language and culture, and supports more young Chinese to study in New Zealand, so as to continuously enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the young people of the two countries, Li said.

Luxon said that the long-term educational cooperation between New Zealand and China is the focus of bilateral cooperation, which is conducive to enhancing mutual understanding between the two sides, and benefits the people of both countries. New Zealand will continue to support the two countries in deepening educational cooperation.

At the closing ceremony, Li presented Chinese books to student representatives of the Confucius Institute and Confucius Classroom in New Zealand, and Luxon presented award certificates to winners of the Prime Minister's Scholarships for Asia and the "Three Brothers Project" Fund.
