China's state broadcaster China Media Group (CMG) and telecoms giant China Mobile signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing on Tuesday, committing the two sides to in-depth, all-round and multi-level cooperation.

CMG has recently cooperated with China Mobile, especially on broadcast rights licensing to top global sporting events such as the upcoming Paris Olympics, the Tokyo Olympics, the Beijing Winter Olympics, and the Qatar World Cup.

"China Media Group and China Mobile will take this strategic cooperation as a new starting point, and work hard and take proactive steps in brand building, event broadcasting, technological innovation, industrial expansion, information sharing and other aspects. We will jointly work to help build China into a leading country in culture, cyberspace and brand building, making new and greater contributions to writing a new chapter of Chinese modernization," said Peng Jianming, general director of CMG's executive office, in a speech at the signing ceremony.

The strategic cooperation between CMG and China Mobile covers live broadcast copyright licensing, content joint operation, international communication and more.

"By focusing on key projects in the Asian, African and European regions within the Belt and Road Initiative framework, we will strengthen overseas publicity to grow China's cultural soft power and the appeal of Chinese culture. We will jointly explore practical paths for the integration of culture and technology, and cultivate and develop new cultural formats," Zhang Dong, deputy general manager of China Mobile, said at the ceremony.

Arab League, Fatah welcome Beijing Declaration on ending schism in Palestine

2024-07-25 20:23 Last Updated At:20:37

The Arab League and Fatah's office in Egypt welcomed the China-brokered reconciliation agreement reached among the 14 Palestinian factions in Beijing, expressing their appreciation to China for its relentless efforts to achieve this feat.   The Palestinian factions signed the Beijing Declaration on ending schism and strengthening Palestinian solidarity after holding reconciliation talks in the Chinese capital city from July 21 to 23.   The Palestinian faction Fatah's office in Egypt says the landmark step is crucial for a two-state solution and hopes its implementation would ease the hardship of the Palestinian people.   "We are thankful to the People's Republic of China for arranging this important meeting, which is made of a series of dialogues among the Palestinian factions. This aims for reconciliation, ending division and uniting all Palestinian power to end the suffering of our people and achieve their dream of independence and freedom. An important outcome which Wang Yi announced, which is a necessity to discuss in the near future, is Palestine's full membership in the United Nations. This membership is crucial to begin the two-state solution. This would be an application of international law and agreement made by all countries of the world," said Mohamed Ghareeb, secretary general of the office.   The Chinese Foreign Ministry has said multiple times that China always firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights, supports Palestinian factions in realizing reconciliation through dialogue and consultation, and supports the achievement of Palestinian solidarity and unity as well as the establishment of an independent state of Palestine at an early date. The ministry said China will continue to make unremitting efforts to this end.   The Arab League says they're thankful for the Chinese efforts to bring to light this Palestinian road map for reconciliation.   "We followed the meetings closely in Beijing and we think it's a very important and significant step towards achieving Palestinian reconciliation and also to implement the two-state solution, two-state vision. We are thankful and appreciate the Chinese initiative to bring together all the Palestinian factions and come up with this landmark agreement. As we all know, there have been, throughout the years, since the Palestinian division in 2007, there have been many attempts for achieving and bringing about reconciliation. Unfortunately, they were not successful. The parties and the sides, maybe they were not interested in honoring their commitments. We hope this agreement would be different," said Gamal Roshdy, spokesman for the secretary general of the Arab League.

"I think all parties look to China as a neutral party, a country that has always been on the right side of history. Its positions on the Palestinian question have been steady and consistent with international law, supporting the cause of an independent Palestinian State. So, the Chinese role is, of course, welcomed by the Arab League, by the Arab countries and obviously by all the Palestinian factions. It's important to build on and follow through on the agreement," he said.
