China has made commendable strides in coping with climate change and has set an example of constructing a healthcare system that covers even rural areas, according to Dr. Shyam Bishen, head of the Centre for Health and Healthcare at the World Economic Forum.

In an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Shyam highlighted the interconnections between health and climate change, emphasizing China's outstanding efforts in environmental protection.

"China has done a great job looking at the impact of climate change on various disease areas. China has suffered through the impact of climate change, obviously, the air quality in many cities were not good because of climate change and other reasons. But china has done a really good job in terms improving overall air quality in many cities" said Shyam.

He also lauded China's healthcare system for its rapid pace of construction and extensive coverage, especially through primary care health centers.

"If I look at the China health care system, the [Healthy China 2030] has done a really fantastic job in creating primary care centers around the country," Shyam said, referring to the country's blueprint for the future of healthcare, proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2016.

"I don't think that any other nation has done something so quickly in such a short period where you have primary care centers, you have the health centers in even rural areas around the country that has been created in a very short period of time. So, kudos governments for doing that, but I think that goes a long way when we are talking about building healthcare infrastructure to respond to climate change. Because climate change impacts rural communities, impacts vulnerable communities, and unless there is a health center, is a primary care health center nearby, I think those communities are in big trouble. So, I think China has done a really good job on creating that over the last few years," he said.

China unveils first self-developed mega hot isostatic pressing equipment

2024-07-20 11:37 Last Updated At:12:07

China on Friday unveiled its first self-developed mega hot isostatic pressing (HIP) equipment, marking a significant breakthrough in the material manufacturing sector.

As the largest of its kind in China, this newly released HIP equipment excels in densifying and optimizing large and intricately shaped materials under ultra-high temperature and pressure.

The HIP is a key technology used in producing high-performance materials, significantly enhancing their wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties.

"In simple terms, this equipment transforms ordinary materials such as metal or porcelain into high-performance ones. Through HIP, material performance is greatly improved, and the average fatigue life of the material can be increased by at least ten times, meeting the needs of extreme working conditions," said Qi Wen, leader of the mega HIP equipment project.

With wide applications, the HIP technique is suitable for both metal and non-metal materials, such as porcelain or glass. This mega equipment will advance the development of China’s aerospace, oil and gas, and machinery manufacturing sectors, enhancing China's competitiveness in the international material manufacturing arena.
