As the Paris 2024 Olympics is in full swing, the new trend of watching the live broadcast of the Games at the cinema has become trendy among Chinese audiences. Beginning with the opening ceremony last week, cinemas across the country have offered the highly personalized service.
Cheering for Team China alongside other sports fans, people are experiencing the excitement of the Olympics not at the competition venues or bars but in cinemas for the first time.
This initiative follows an agreement between China Media Group (CMG), the copyright owner for the Olympic Games, and China Film Group Corporation, a national theater chain.
High-quality audio-visual equipment in many cinemas provides audiences with an unparalleled experience.
"It's a great experience. It feels like I'm in Paris, and it makes me so happy to cheer together with everyone in the room. It's well worth it," said Luo Yujie, one of the audience members.
During the Paris Olympics, more than 800 cinemas across the country will broadcast over 20 sports live, including table tennis, badminton, diving, volleyball, and many other events with improved viewing experience provided for audiences.
"To attract audiences to our cinema, we've set aside a special effects hall for the live broadcasts. It has a 16-by-8-meter screen. Only at the cinema can audiences enjoy such a huge screen. We've also prepared small flags for each audience member. We hope that more audiences can come into the cinema and enjoy the cheerful atmosphere," said Wu Ying, manager of a cinema.

Vice President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Gilles Carbonnier on Saturday said he was encouraged by the humanitarian organization's deepening relationship with China.
In an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) during the 11th Xiangshan Forum, Carbonnier said the ICRC has not only been engaged in dialogue with China and other states, but has also welcomed the country's involvement in the launch of programs to help people affected by conflicts.
"China is definitely a major player. We really are very encouraged to see that our relationship with the PLA, with the People's Liberation Army, with the Ministry of Defense deepening on several issues of common interest, especially on International Humanitarian Law and humanitarian priorities. We at the ICRC really look forward to developing this dialogue, of course, here in Beijing, but also as we're doing in Geneva, in New York, as well as in the field, for example, where Chinese peacekeepers are also active," he said.
The three-day Xiangshan Forum opened on Thursday in Beijing, attracting more than 500 representatives of official delegations from more than 100 countries and international organizations, and over 200 experts and scholars to discuss global security.
