China's Olympic delegation concluded its journey at the Paris 2024 Olympics with 40 gold medals, setting a new record for the country at overseas Olympics.

The Chinese sports delegation delivered a record-breaking performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze medals across 11 major events and 14 sub-events, totaling 91 medals.

This achievement marks the country's best overseas performance since it comprehensively participated in a Summer Olympics abroad in 1984, said Zhou Jinqiang, deputy head of the delegation at a press conference held in France on Sunday.

Chinese athletes set one world record and established nine new Olympic records at Paris 2024. Meanwhile, China's six traditional strongholds, including diving, table tennis, badminton, artistic gymnastics, shooting and weightlifting, amassed 27 gold medals, accounting for 67.5 percent of the total, according to Zhou.

2024-09-13 05:48 Last Updated At:07:17

China and Spain are set to deepen bilateral economic and trade cooperation, with a focus on expanding collaboration in emerging industries such as clean energy and cross-border e-commerce, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.

During a regular press briefing, spokesperson He Yongqian said the ministry will work closely with Spanish authorities to strengthen ties and cement economic partnerships.

"Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez recently led a trade delegation to China, where he and Minister Wang Wentao delivered speeches at the second meeting of the China-Spain Business Advisory Council, joined by over 60 representatives from both countries. During the meeting, business leaders from China and Spain expressed their commitment not only to strengthening cooperation in traditional sectors but also to exploring opportunities in emerging industries such as clean energy, cross-border e-commerce, big data, and the low-altitude economy, while jointly expanding into other markets," He said.

The spokesperson said the next step is to provide more regular and practical platforms for exchanges between businesses from the two countries.

Sanchez visited China for a four-day trip that began on Sept. 8.
