A cross-Strait youth drama fans exchange and experience camp opened on Tuesday in Xiamen City of east China's Fujian Province situated opposite the island of Taiwan, with the participation of 50 teachers and students from the Taiwan region and 30 youths from Xiamen.
At the opening ceremony of the event, traditional cultural elements represented by the Chinese red folding fans shined together with the modern technology of drone performances, attracting the eyeballs of many passers-by. Laureates of the mainland's top drama awards presented traditional folding fans and other mascots to the youth representatives from Taiwan.
"The drama performers and dancers here are all really amazing, and their body motions are flexible. I wish I will be like them and hope to have the opportunity to learn from them," said He Rui'an, a student from Taiwan.
"I am interested in the Taiwanese opera part. There are many temples in Taiwan, and there are often Taiwanese opera performances in front of them. I come here to have a look and conduct cultural exchanges," said Wang Ruyu, another student from Taiwan.
This activity will last six days, during which young people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will learn drama, watch drama, and perform drama together.
"Previous exchange events were mainly academic or performing arts exchanges. This time, it is about drama itself. The students have to watch drama, create drama together, and perform together. They will create something from nothing. I think in this process, young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait can better enhance their relationship," said Chen-Jung Hsu, founder of the Chio-Tian Folk Drums and Art Troupe in Taiwan.
