Chinese President Xi Jinping and President of the Libyan Presidency Council Mohamed Menfi announced the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries on Wednesday in Beijing during their meeting at the Great Hall of the People.

Menfi is in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Xi pointed out that China and Libya enjoy a traditional friendship, and over the past 46 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have always supported and treated each other with sincerity.

No matter how the global landscape evolves, China's stance of supporting the stability and development of Libya and promoting China-Libya friendly cooperation will not change, said Xi, noting that China is willing to deepen political mutual trust, and expand exchanges and cooperation with Libya to ensure steady and sustained growth of China-Libya relations.

Xi stressed that China appreciates Libya's adherence to the one-China principle, supports Libya in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and finding a path to national peace, stability and prosperity through dialogue and consultation.

China supports Libya's economic reconstruction and improvement of people's livelihood, hoping that Libya will create a sound business environment for Chinese enterprises, said Xi.

China is willing to work with Libya to enhance dialogue and cooperation with African and Arab countries, strengthen communication within multilateral frameworks including the United Nations, consolidate solidarity and coordination among countries in the Global South, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries and international fairness and justice, said Xi.

Menfi said he highly value attending the FOCAC Beijing summit, which provides a historic opportunity for the development of Libya-China and Africa-China relations.

China is crucial to Libya from the perspectives of peace and economy, said Menfi, noting that Libya is willing to strengthen trade and investment cooperation with China within the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and FOCAC, welcomes Chinese enterprises to participate in Libya's economic reconstruction, and is willing to provide a favorable environment for them.

Libya firmly abides by the one-China principle and will not change its stance under any circumstances, said Menfi.

Slovak PM regards visit to China as most important visit in 2024

Robert Fico, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, described his early November visit to China as the most important visit of 2024 during an interview with China Media Group (CMG).

Fico paid an official visit to China from Oct. 31 to Nov. 5 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang. During his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Nov. 1, the two countries agreed to elevate their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

When explaining why he placed such significant importance on his visit to China, Fico shared his views on China's influence on global affairs.

"Thank you for the interview! I want to say that not only in Slovakia, but in the entire European Union, we have underestimated certain things. We have underestimated not only China's influence on world peace but also its impact on the global economy. This is why I believe it is very appropriate to call this visit 'the most important visit of 2024'," he said.

Fico previously served as Slovakia's prime minister from 2006 to 2010 and again from 2012 to 2018.

He was reappointed to the position in October 2023.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Slovakia.
