The 3rd Carbon Neutrality (Xi'an) International Forum, hosted by China's Northwest University, opened in the historic city of Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on Tuesday, aiming to deepen international cooperation in addressing climate change. The event brought together over 500 participants, including renowned experts, government officials, and representatives from enterprises, universities and research institutions from around the globe. The forum sought to gather global wisdom and create an open platform to explore sustainable development paths as well as to contribute to China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and enhance global climate governance. At the opening ceremony, an educational program targeting teenagers was officially launched. The program will include science popularization lectures in schools and online competitions focused on low-carbon knowledge, encouraging adolescents to enhance their awareness about environmental protection and inspiring them to advocate and practice a low-carbon lifestyle.
In the keynote session, notable figures such as Piao Shilong, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and vice president of Peking University, and Jin Zhijun, also a CAS academician and director of the Peking University Institute of Energy, delved into various topics including new challenges and opportunities for global low-carbon policies and international cooperation. The roundtable discussion featured experts and scholars from domestic and international universities, alongside representatives from companies like Shaanxi Hydrogen Energy, Changqing Oilfield and LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd.. The participants engaged in discussions on topics such as new productive forces driving industrial low-carbon transformation and international cooperation in scientific innovation and human resources development to combat climate change.
