A variety of land-based air defense weapons and equipment will be on display at the Zhuhai Airshow, scheduled to take place in Zhuhai City of south China's Guangdong Province from Nov. 12 to 17.
Among these weapons and equipment, the LY-70 field air defense missile system stands out with its dual launchers that can carry 14 missiles of two different calibers. It is equipped with four LY-70 air-defense missiles, with an interception range extending up to 40 kilometers. Additionally, six smaller launchers hold FB-10A air-defense missiles, capable of intercepting targets within an 18-kilometer range.
"The system features active radar and passive infrared systems that work together and complement each other to guide missiles. Even under strong electromagnetic interference that may cause radar malfunctions, it demonstrates strong operational capabilities. It also supports both static and dynamic operations, and can be used for both fixed-point defense, and mobile combat launch. This capability is significant as it enables the system to protect a moving convoy within a 40-kilometer radius," said Yang Guang, an engineer at the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology.
Additionally, this air-defense system also uses two battlefield search methods, radar and infrared. The radar operates in silent mode to reduce the risk of detection by drones.
"From analyzing major global conflicts, we've recognized the threat posed by drones, particularly to air-defense equipment. With this in mind, we designed a rounded top component that provides self-defense against drone interference. This equipment enables us to detect, deflect, and disrupt drones effectively," said Yang.
The highly-anticipated biennial aerospace trade show, officially known as the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, has attracted 1,022 companies from 47 countries and regions, including Russia, France, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Italy.
