As the Spring Festival approaches, people across the country are bustling with festive shopping, stocking up on Spring Festival goods to welcome the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year.

In Putian City, east China's Fujian Province, several seafood dry goods markets have entered their peak sales season. The diverse range of seafood products, high quality, and affordable prices have attracted numerous consumers to shop.

"As the Chinese New Year approaches, dry seafood is an essential part of our family's festive shopping. This year, the market offers a wide variety of seafood products with excellent quality and reasonable prices. So, I plan to buy more to share this ocean delicacy with my family," said a consumer surnamed Wang.

It is known that local specialties from Putian City, such as dried shrimp, dried razor clams, dried sea prawns, and dried cuttlefish, are increasingly popular among consumers with their great taste, high nutritional value, ease of storage, and food safety. To prepare for the Spring Festival sales peak, merchants have stocked up in advance to ensure they can meet the diverse needs of customers.

As the Spring Festival approaches, festive markets in many parts of northwest China's Shaanxi Province are bustling with activity. Residents are flocking to these markets to shop for New Year goods and prepare for the celebrations.

At the Lunar New Year Shopping Festival in Xincheng District, Xi'an City, rows of festively decorated stalls showcase a dazzling array of products.

Among them, a stall selling Spring Festival couplets stands out, as several calligraphers offer free handwritten couplets to shoppers, attracting many who come to seek good fortune for the New Year.

In Yulin City, Shaanxi, merchants have turned to online livestreams to sell Lunar New Year goods. Taking advantage of the festive promotions, many viewers are eagerly placing their orders.

As the Spring Festival approaches, the flower markets in Xianyang City of Shaanxi have entered their peak sales season.

"I came here today to buy two pots of orchids and some anthuriums. I think they blossom in joyous and bright colors, a perfect match for the occasion," said a local resident.

As the Spring Festival approaches, many residents in Nanning City, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, have begun purchasing Spring Festival couplets and various decorations featuring elements of the Year of the Snake.

Recently, Spring Festival decorations have entered their peak sales season, with velvet-style couplets and magnetic couplets among bestsellers this year. Each festive couplet reflects people's hopes and aspirations for the upcoming new year.

The 16th Beijing International Film Festival unfolded a "water red carpet" along a section of the Grand Canal in Tongzhou District, its sub-venue, on Friday night, when dazzling lights and illuminations brought the ancient waterway vividly to life.

The "water red carpet" stretched 3.3 kilometers on the canal, the world's longest and oldest man-made waterway spanning roughly 1,794 km, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. Five tour boats carried guests on the water, and after that they stepped onto a 100-meter red carpet along the waterfront.

Another highlight of the evening was the official premiere and maiden voyage of Journey on the Canal, a large-scale water spectacle performance that is part of activities held by the film festival's Tongzhou sub-venue.

With real scenes of the Grand Canal as the backdrop and stage, spectators from tour boats with panoramic ceilings enjoyed the 55-minute immersive performance that presents the canal's thousand-year history along a 3.5-kilometer stretch of the river.

Designed by renowned artist Han Meilin, the production features artistic installations in combination with advanced technology, including stunning water curtain projections, laser displays and dynamic lighting effects.

Tongzhou District, located in the southeast of Beijing, serves as the sub-center of the Chinese capital. The area is developing into a modern urban hub while preserving its rich Grand Canal heritage.

The festival is running from April 16 to 25.
