The Spring Festival-themed fairs have been held in many cities across China, showcasing a diverse array of special purchases for the upcoming Spring Festival and creating an irresistible festive atmosphere.
In Datong, north China's Shanxi Province, over 150 enterprises have showcased a diverse range of high-quality special purchases for the Spring Festival at a local fair, offering a festive extravaganza for customers.
In the specialty agricultural products section, customers are busy choosing fresh products with a variety of flavors from different regions.
"I bought some food for the Spring Festival, and I also bought oat noodles, bean noodles, and buckwheat noodles. There are many products here, and the prices are reasonable," said a resident.
"Today, I brought here products such as dried apricots from Yanggao County, millet from Guangling County, daylily products, and a specialty dessert made with sticky rice from Datong. With a wide range of products, it is more convenient for the residents to select their preferred ones, and for the tourists to know the diverse agricultural products of Datong," said Xu Donghui, an exhibitor of the fair.
The fair is held from Jan 18 to Jan 22 and will be held again from Jan 30 to Feb 5.
In Nanping, east China's Fujian Province, a sales event for the Spring Festival featuring local specialties such as tangelos, winter bamboo shoots, camellia oil, pressed salted ducks, and sugarcane has drawn a significant influx of residents and tourists.
"Eating sugarcane during the Spring Festival carries good meaning, symbolizing sweetness and good luck. That's why we have always come to buy some goods and sugarcane for the Spring Festival," said Cai Yi, a local resident.
Besides, a bustling fair is underway in Songxi County of Nanping, showcasing a wide range of products such as food, clothing, and daily necessities. Residents and tourists can also indulge in a variety of local snacks at the event.
"I came to participate in the event today and found it very lively. When I went to the area where people were writing Spring Festival couplets, I noticed that the characters were very well-written," said Lu Juan, a local resident.
In Rizhao of Shandong Province in east China, a wide variety of goods for the Spring Festival are on display at a local fair, drawing a bustling crowd. Many vendors have positioned speakers in front of their stalls to promote their merchandises.
"I came to experience the strong festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival. I also watched the land boat dance and the crafting of paper lanterns, and I found them quite interesting," said Wang Rongrong, a local resident.
Meanwhile, various exhibition areas showcasing intangible cultural heritage items, agricultural goods with live streaming activities, and local delicacies have further enriched the festive ambiance at the fair.
"Rizhao is famous for black pottery. So, I want to take this opportunity to let more people understand Rizhao's traditional culture," said Liu Shuzheng, an intangible cultural heritage inheritor of pottery Xun, one of the oldest musical instruments in China.
This year, Hotan City in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China has launched a series of events for the Spring Festival special purchases, featuring a bazaar with a street extending over 300 meters and hosting 200 stalls.
At the bazaar, there are a plenty of festive decorations, including various small items adorned with snake elements, allowing customers to choose their preferred goods for the Spring Festival.
"Today, I bought some couplets, along with dried and fresh fruits. The essential household items needed during the Spring Festival, including food and daily necessities, are mostly bought here. It's very convenient, almost like a one-stop shopping experience," said Wang Feng, a local resident.
Furthermore, residents are drawn to a variety of delicacies such as roasted whole lamb, roasted goose eggs, and grilled meats at the bazaar. They can also enjoy spectacular cultural performances while shopping.
